The Crown: Here’s what to know
Ever since it premiered back in 2017, The Crown is among the best Netflix shows. It seems like the fascination with the British royal family is still going strong because season four is an absolute hit right now. This year, the viewers got to see the wedding of Princess Diana and Prince Charles, Margaret Thatcher as the prime minister, the Falklands War and many more.
Everyone knows there is more to the story, so it is no wonder viewers are excited about the future seasons. Don’t forget about the internet safety while streaming a favourite TV show. For instance, a VPN can help make the most of the streaming service being used by unlocking a favourite show when someone is away from home. Plus, a VPN will encrypt the data and protect the information along the way. A lot of people are also working from home these days, so using such tools as NordVPN Teams can be very beneficial because it lets access data wherever someone is.
Now, the main topic – The Crown. Here’s what to know about season five.
Will there be a season five?
Peter Morgan, the showrunner, said that The Crown should end after season five. However, Netflix has confirmed there will be season six as well. Morgan will have the opportunity to tell the story in more detail. Future seasons will cover the recent history of the British royal family. So fans of the show shouldn’t worry because there are more episodes to come.
When will season five arrive on Netflix?
While the date hasn’t been set yet, there are some details regarding season five. Season four premiered in November 2020 despite the COVID-19 delays. The showrunner himself admitted the final version of season four is missing two weeks of filming, but the production crew made it work.
Morgan revealed to the press that the production of season five should start in 2021. The filming is probably delayed due to the pandemic. It means that the new episodes will very likely arrive on Netflix in November 2022. If we follow the same pattern, season six will not premier before November 2023. But keep in mind that The Crown had a long pause between seasons two and three, so one can only guess at this point.
Which decades will seasons five and six cover?
According to Morgan, seasons five and six will be about the royal family in the 1990s and early 2000s. He didn’t say where he would end the drama yet. Season four introduced the relationship between Princess Diana and Prince Charles, her struggle to fit in and events that made the princess very relatable. There is also Margaret Thatcher as the prime minister and her interaction with the royal family.
Perhaps the most intriguing thing that the fans are looking forward to is Princess Diana’s separation from Prince Charles. It was heavily covered by the media back then, so it will be exciting to see everything unfold on TV screens. The upcoming seasons will also deal with Princess Diana’s death and its aftermath. Also, don’t forget the Queen’s Golden Wedding anniversary in 1997.
There is no official word on the ending point for this epic TV show. The fans are speculating that Morgan will select the Queen’s 2012 Diamond Jubilee for it. It indicates that the audience would see the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. However, Prince Harry’s relationship with Meghan Markle will not make the cut.
Are there any new castings?
Olivia Colman will not be returning for the new season. It has already been announced that the role of Queen Elizabeth II will be played by the fantastic Imelda Staunton. If the name sounds familiar, it’s probably because of her role in the Harry Potter series. Staunton had a very memorable role as Dolores Umbridge.
Two fantastic English actresses, Helena Bonham-Carter and Vanessa Kirby played the role of Princess Margaret. Lesley Manville will take over in season five. She has already voiced her excitement about this casting all over social media and is overjoyed to play Imelda Staunton’s sibling.
Emma Corrin was an excellent choice for the young Princess Diana. She was scared to play such a global icon at first, but the critics enjoyed her performance. Elizabeth Debicki will pick up where Corrin left off. This Aussie actress most recently starred in Tenet, released this year. She also had roles in several Hollywood blockbusters like The Great Gatsby and Guardians of the Galaxy.
Dominic West, the star of The Wire and The Affair, has been in talks for the role of Prince Charles. Netflix confirmed back in October 2020 that he accepted the offer and will appear in both season five and season six of The Crown. And finally, Jonathan Pryce will complete the star-studded casts as Prince Philip. He’s become popular with movies like the Pirates of the Caribbean and Tomorrow Never Dies, as well as Game of Thrones.
