Will there be a season five?

Peter Morgan, the showrunner, said that The Crown should end after season five. However, Netflix has confirmed there will be season six as well. Morgan will have the opportunity to tell the story in more detail. Future seasons will cover the recent history of the British royal family. When will season five arrive on Netflix?

While the date hasn’t been set yet, there are some details regarding season five. Season four premiered in November 2020 despite the COVID-19 delays. The showrunner himself admitted the final version of season four is missing two weeks of filming, but the production crew made it work.

Morgan revealed to the press that the production of season five should start in 2021. The filming is probably delayed due to the pandemic. It means that the new episodes will very likely arrive on Netflix in November 2022. If we follow the same pattern, season six will not premier before November 2023. Which decades will seasons five and six cover?

According to Morgan, seasons five and six will be about the royal family in the 1990s and early 2000s. He didn’t say where he would end the drama yet. Season four introduced the relationship between Princess Diana and Prince Charles, her struggle to fit in and events that made the princess very relatable. There is also Margaret Thatcher as the prime minister and her interaction with the royal family.

Perhaps the most intriguing thing that the fans are looking forward to is Princess Diana’s separation from Prince Charles. It was heavily covered by the media back then, so it will be exciting to see everything unfold on TV screens. The upcoming seasons will also deal with Princess Diana’s death and its aftermath. Emma Corrin was an excellent choice for the young Princess Diana. She was scared to play such a global icon at first, but the critics enjoyed her performance. She also had roles in several Hollywood blockbusters like The Great Gatsby and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Dominic West, the star of The Wire and The Affair, has been in talks for the role of Prince Charles. Netflix confirmed back in October 2020 that he accepted the offer and will appear in both season five and season six of The Crown. And finally, Jonathan Pryce will complete the star-studded casts as Prince Philip. He’s become popular with movies like the Pirates of the Caribbean and Tomorrow Never Dies, as well as Game of Thrones.
