Eggstraction
Just in time for Easter, Morpheus is presenting another roleplay-like experience perfect for the conditions of the lockdown. Like Spymaker, but unlike other Morpheus shows, Eggstraction is intended to include younger audiences and thereby perfect for the whole family – but it’s no less entertaining for it: it still maintains its characteristic balance of witty writing, interactive storytelling and fantastic narration. It’s still a good egg.
As usual with Morpheus Show productions, the audience-participants hop into the roles of characters in an interactive story via Zoom, in which they have a mission to complete. The experience takes place in the viewer’s imagination as a quick-witted narrator describes everything they can see, hear, and interact with, and the participants describe what they wish to say or do. It’s a wonderful form of escapism, making it practically impossible not to become entirely immersed through the freedom it offers and the collaborative nature of the show.
In Eggstraction, the players take the role of a team of detectives and are tasked by an eggcentric billionaire to steal the valuable Fabergé Egg at his museum to test his new security system. At the same time, the famous master thief “The Easter Bunny” is trying to get hold of the egg as well. It’s essentially a wonderful parody of a typical heist plotline, and the writing uses every opportunity to poke fun at some of its more tired tropes and to introduce numerous humorous elements.
Of course nothing is ever quite as it seems and the audience is soon on a wild rollercoaster of a ride (including actual rides and slides in this instance) and practically forced to engage; the strangers one meets at the beginning are like old friends towards the end. What’s more, each show feels entirely different, since the dynamic in the audience and the style of the narrator change it completely each time, meaning that the formula allows for a complete novelty for each installation and should leave all audiences hoppy by the end of it.
Morpheus Shows are unique experiences and never fail to surprise with their imaginative setups, their bunny writing and their fantastic puns. Eggstraction is no exception and lives up perfectly to the expectations set by earlier shows. It is a brilliant adventure to enjoy with the whole family – so hop right in!
