Extend your summer with these September food and drink events
As much as the weather might like to mislead us, the summer isn’t over just yet. Things are only just heating up again after a hard year for hospitality, so it’s only right that we support London’s food scene by, err, eating and drinking as much as we can. Here are some of the best events and openings in September that are sure to keep us in high spirits come rain or shine. Don’t forget that while Pride itself isn’t going ahead this year, it’s still being celebrated across the capital in a fittingly colourful fashion.
Meatopia festival in Shadwell – 3rd September
Following a year’s hiatus, Meatopia London is back and bigger than ever. The festival, one of the capital’s top food events and the place to be for fans of fire cooking, have announced an impressive roster of headline chefs for September’s event. These “Grill Masters” are set to keep the coals hot for a weekend of barbecue bliss. Continuing Founder Josh Ozersky’s pledge of showcasing quality, sustainability and flavour, the event promises a feast for the senses with delicious fire-cooked food, drinks and entertainment. Ganymede soft launch weekend in Belgravia – 4th-6th September
This September, Lunar Pub Company is opening its second site, Ganymede, in the heart of Belgravia. From the team behind South Kensington favourite The Hunter’s Moon, a new bar and dining room is set to take Belgravia by storm, offering exceptional British cuisine and a carefully crafted drinks list, in the most beautiful of settings. Mei Ume limited-edition Mid-Autumn festival menu – 7th-21st September
This September, Mei Ume, the Chinese and Japanese restaurant at Four Seasons Hotel London at Ten Trinity Square, will celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival with the launch of their festive menu and intricately crafted mooncakes. In honour of the auspicious festival, Head Chef Tony Truong has crafted a special menu of Chinese dishes traditionally eaten during the festival to symbolize gratitude and togetherness. The menu will include dimsSum filled with har gau, siu mai and black truffle and the prized Lobster with Ginger and Spring Onions. Taking centre stage are the emblems of the festival, mooncakes, which are traditionally gifted between friends and families on the eve of the harvest moon. The Republic of Beer in City of London – 8th-9th September
Prepare to be transported to The Republic of Beer this September with Budweiser Budvar’s immersive pop-up experience, appearing in the heart of the city of London. At the pop-up, guests will be invited to step into the Republic of Beer and presented with their own passport. They will then get the chance to pick their own chilled beer from the Budvar Beer Tree – the striking centrepiece of the event. Ambassadors from the Republic of Beer will be on-hand to help and there will be lots of space to sit back and enjoy the unique taste and character of slow-aged Czech lager.
Nuet Smörgåsbar in Shoreditch – 8th-12th September
This September, Scandi spirit brand Nuet Aquavit invites you to the Nuet Smörgåsbar, a retro cabin pop-up at Callooh Callay, Shoreditch. Step inside the secret Scandinavian lodge and prepare to delve into a Nuet (which translates as “The Now”) adventure. Enter the wardrobe at the back of Callooh Callay to find your way up to the hidden Nuet Smörgåsbar evoking retro Scandi vibes – think vintage skis, sheepskin rugs, fire lanterns, music and even some smells to really create the old cabin feel. Ivy Soho Pride celebrations – 10th-12th September
Whilst the Pride parade in London has unfortunately been postponed this year, The Ivy Soho Brasserie is delighted to be hosting an exciting weekend in honour of this historical annual event, including a neon installation, live entertainment, drag themed brunch and fierce limited-edition cocktail menu. From 10th September until 12th September, guests will be able to enjoy the dazzling installation, which will light up Broadwick Street, alongside an array of tantalising, colourful cocktails. Southern Comfort Pride Boat Party – 11th September
Southern Comfort is bringing the spirit of New Orleans to London with its upcoming Southern Comfort Pride Boat Party on Saturday 11th September. The immersive celebration of self-expression and togetherness will be hosted on a vintage Mississippi paddle steamer boat along the Thames. Journey through the capital while dancing away to DJ sets from Melanie Blatt, Mark-Ashley Dupé and Raven Mandella. There will also be performances from London’s finest Voguing crews and Drag Queens from Sink The Pink – the LGTBQ+ collective known for continuously challenging the status quo around nightlife. Fuelling the fun will be an irresistible array of food and drink, including Southern Comfort’s original slushies and an authentic New Orleans-inspired brunch-style menu featuring fried chicken, mac & cheese and vegan gumbo. The Blue Posts Pride party – 11th September
Whilst London Pride 2021 will not be going ahead this year due to sadly being cancelled, The Blue Posts in Soho will still be celebrating and actively supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, as they host a all day Pride party. On Saturday 11th September, from 12pm until late, DJ Wayne David, behind famed 90/00s club night Rhythm of the Night, will be mixing records and taking influences from upbeat genres including house, dance, disco and pop. Guests will be invited to come together with their loved ones to dance and mingle the day and night away, with a portion of the proceeds from the event going to the Albert Kennedy Trust. For those wanting to recharge their dancing shoes, The Mulwray, The Blue Posts’ upstairs wine bar will also be open. Entry to the event is free on a first come, first welcomed service. However, booking ahead for The Mulwray is advisable.
Bar Swift’s Sweet and Sparkling in Shoreditch – 18th September
On the 18th September from 12pm, opulent cocktail bar Swift Shoreditch hosts a deliciously indulgent afternoon with sweet pastries and champagne cocktails. The event, aptly named Sweet and Sparkling, will be in collaboration with micro-patisserie Abi Pastry and Perrier-Jouët Champagne, perfectly marrying the two delightful combinations. Wunderbar at Pergola Paddington – From 18th September
September 18th will see Pergola, one of the capital’s most loved hideaways, launch Wunderbar in Paddington: a horn-blaring, stein-sloshing Bavarian knees up. For six weeks only, West London’s largest alfresco drinking and dining destination will be transformed into a majestic beer hall, reminiscent of those on the Theresienwiese in Munich, serving up real German beers, a special collaborative brew with Camden Town Brewery, delicious Bavarian food and a hearty helping of ‘Gemütlichkeit’ in celebration of Oktoberfest. Lyaness x Nude limited-edition cocktail menu on the Southbank – 13th-26th September
This September, critically acclaimed London bar Lyaness from Ryan Chetiyawardana, aka Mr Lyan, is partnering with contemporary glassware specialist Nude for London Design Festival. From 13th-26th September, Lyaness will showcase an exclusive and bespoke menu of three cocktails inspired by, and served in, Nude’s Hepburn glasses by American designer Brad Ascalon. The menu will comprise of a rhubarb and Kummel Gin Sour, a rich and silky Sazerac with Lyaness’ unique ingredient Purple Pineapple, and bright, floral and peppery Vodka Soda with Sichuan pepper, white peony and jasmine.
