Holly Humberstone at Shepherd’s Bush Empire
Starting the week off on Monday night in the heart of Shepherds Bush, Holly Humberstone dazzled the crowd at the Empire with her dazzling vocals. Having shot to fame in just a year, the British singer, who was named number two on BBC Sound of 2021, performed some of her most popular songs to the packed venue.
In the haze of smoke and blindingly bright, white lights, Humberstone opened up her show with Vanilla, one of the singles released in 2020. The crowd was immediately enthralled by the soft songs and her impressive vocal range. As she went on to sing some more popular tunes, such as Overkill, her voice and those of the crowd echoed through the whole venue, sending chills through everyone there – it was truly that powerful.
There were a few awkward points in the set between tracks, notably before a performance of Haunted House, which she explained was about the childhood home she sadly had to leave, as the crowd carried on their own conversations. Recovering from the sticky moment, Holly brought onto the stage Jack Steadman (formerly of Bombay Bicycle Club) to perform a song off of her upcoming EP, Friendly Fire.
The night was full of breathtaking vocals and incredible numbers like Deep End, written about her little sister, and Falling Asleep at the Wheel; she even ended the show with one of her most popular hits, The Walls Are Way Too Thin.
Holly Humberstone is definitely an artist to watch out for, and someone the music industry won’t be forgetting any time soon. What she lacks in stage presence she makes up for with her amazing vocals and emotionally intimate songs that almost anyone could relate to.
