How to look amazing this winter: Fashion tips for men
In the recent past, it was perhaps not seen as masculine for men to pay too much attention to their attire, or even their appearance. But that wasn’t the case in eras gone by, when men’s court fashion was given as much consideration as woman’s fashion. And in our contemporary moment, there seems to be a return to men embracing their sartorial choices as a means of expression, spearheaded by the likes of former One Direction heartthrob, Harry Styles, and Call Me By Your Name‘s Timotheé Chalamet, both now famed for their gender-blending, risk-taking style choices.
So why not jump on the bandwagon like you did with bitcoin code and see how you can add a splash of fun into your wardrobe this winter? Here are a few top tips for turning heads this season:
Apres-ski meets the city
It might have been a while since you were able to hit the slopes, or being ankle-deep in the white stuff might just not be your bag. But now there’s no need to be in the vicinity of any lethal-looking black runs to don some serious ski-inspired gear. Puffy snow jackets, colourful hooded coats and technical materials such as nylon are all the rage on the city streets. And you have the added bonus that if a fluke blizzard breaks out on your way home, you are more than prepared.
The cult of leather
You may approach the prospect of leather with caution, reasonably concerned of coming off a bit mid-life crisis in a biker jacket. But leather really is worth a second thought, with The Matrix‘s Neo’s return our screens providing the apt moment to indulge in all manner of floor-grazing trench coats. Having a go at the bullet-dodging moves? Optional.
Bold knitwear
If a woollen jumper only brings to mind the itchy, suffocating kind knitted by your grandmother and gifted to you each Christmas as a kid, then it’s time for a rethink. Now the humble pullover can become the funkiest focal point of your wardrobe, with a blaze of colours, geometric shapes and graphic designs in fun-loving XXL shapes being all the rage. Plus they have the added use of being supremely comfy and warm and covering up whatever random t-shirt you happen to have grabbed from the closet that morning.
Fancy dressing gowns
Gotten rather attached to your dressing gown during lockdown? Well, don’t fear because the fashion Gods have spoken and you can actually wear it out on the street now, too. Ok, not your actual dressing down. But rather a couture outer coat inspired by the look of a dressing gown. It might knock you back a few pennies but you can be sure to be snuggly toasty and comfortable as well as look “chef’s kiss” while walking the streets to the office or pub during these chilly months.
Logo caps
We’re not sure if the costume designers working on Succession were anticipating the cast’s attire to be the subject of such discourse or intense analysis, nor that it might spark fashion trends in real life, with the decisions behind the clothing choices often saying something about the interior life of the characters, and not always having good things to say. But that aside, the everyday baseball cap is making a full comeback Kendall Roy style and you want to be here for it. And don’t hold back; seek out those with the most brazen of logos to zap new life into this of-the-moment wardrobe staple.
