How to stay entertained during self-isolation

How to stay entertained during self-isolation

Covid-19 has been with us for almost two years already, and with it came a whole new way of living and keeping busy, including national and international lockdowns and the need to self-isolate when infected or after contact with someone who is.

Sadly, while the idea of self-isolation may sound like a mini vacation, the reality is that it can be incredibly boring being stuck at home. Therefore, here are some tips on how to stay entertained during self-isolation for those who find themselves locked away.

Catch up on any housework or renovations

During any given year, many of us may have a list of things we need to fix around the house. This could be a leaking roof, a few old picture hooks in the wall we no longer need, or maybe just a fresh coat of paint on some weathered areas.

One of the best ways to make the self-isolation clock tick by is to get immersed in some – or all – of all these projects. Not only will being released from isolation mean being ready to get back to life, but many things will be crossed off the to-do list.

Anyone worried about not being able to get stuff done without all the proper equipment shouldn’t stress about it: many online hardware stores offer safe and contactless delivery directly to the customer so it’s easy to get everything that’s needed.

Learn a new skill or develop a new hobby

Thankfully, we live in the age of the mighty Internet. This means that, unlike in previous generations, we truly have the knowledge of the world at our fingertips.

So, for anyone who’s ever wanted to gain a new skill, improve on something they know, or just find out more about something of interest, self-isolation is the best time to do it. It’s an opportunity for self-development and to make time move more quickly.

There are numerous websites available, such as LinkedIn Learning, that offer short courses on a variety of great subjects, and from graphic design to learning a new language, there are almost endless possibilities. Pro tip: check whether a local library membership offers free access to LinkedIn Learning, as many do.

If not, or if it’s time to tighten the purse strings, there’s also a massive supply of free learning content online, ranging from e-books to YouTube videos that can teach a person almost anything.

Relax and take some time out

If life has seemed like a movie lately – yes Covid, you’re to blame – another great way to spend a self-isolation period is by simply relaxing and treating oneself to some downtime.

With the rush of life and having to live in the midst of a global pandemic, there is nothing wrong with lying on the couch and reading a book. There’s also nothing wrong with sleeping in a bit or taking a long, relaxing bath.

After all, how often does anyone get sent home to spend time by themselves during a normal year?

Get fit and become active

If lying on the couch all day with a book in hand doesn’t seem appealing, self-isolators who aren’t feeling too sick can also use the time to get into shape and ready for when quarantine ends.

Following online workout videos that show new uses for everyday items that are often lying around, one can easily create a great daily workout routine. This will help pass some time with the added benefit of getting in shape.

Conclusion

Self-isolation isn’t a reality many have previously had to face and nobody imagined they’d have to – unless a nuclear fallout occurred or they were bitten by a radioactive spider. But it has become a part of everyday life.

Using the tips above, could help make any self-isolation feel like a great retreat that allows for self-betterment in a variety of ways.
