Six of the finest tech movies ever to hit the cinema screen
Since the advent of movies, being entertained has been easy, especially now that content is everywhere. From directors to actors and scriptwriters, film-lovers have seen a lot of people come into the industry and produce some incredible content. And some of the best features were tech movies that changed the industry forever. Here’s a look at six of the best tech movies that have entertained and amazed viewers.
Tron (1982)
A movie directed by Steven Lisberger and starring Jeff Bridges is a must-watch, and Tron proved the same when it was released in 1982. Despite the industry facing limitations in terms of technology and special effects, Lisberger and co managed to make one of the finest tech movies of all time. Lead character Jeff Bridges is sucked into a computer, and the film goes on to show his interactions with the computer world.
Avatar (2009)
James Cameron’s movies are ambitious and often beautiful to see. So a figure as much as $310 million being attached to the production of Avatar is no surprise, because the movie featured a whole different planet, called Pandora, with native inhabitants including the Na’vi. The battles and the struggles that they go through make the rest of the film a treat to watch, especially when it comes to the end, where an epic battle ensues.
Hackers (1995)
Back in 1995, when Hackers was released, it was a masterpiece for programmers and security enthusiasts. The feature, in a detailed manner, showcased how a bunch of high school students went on to use their tech knowledge for the sake of corporate extortion. While it managed to receive nothing but mixed reviews, it did end up being remembered and there are programmers, who, to this day, speak highly of the movie, even calling it inspirational.
Minority Report (2002)
If a cinema production is capable of contributing to Silicon Valley startup plans, its significance is undeniable (much like online Roulette, which changed the way many previously played the game). Minority Report, starring Tom Cruise, used a unique storyline to show a future where police use pre-crime analysis to predict issues even before they happen. The movie uses several elements to display an authentic future and, to a certain extent, it was successful.
Though it has its own problems, Minority Report stands tall in terms of being one of the best for tech movies. The vision with which it was made deserves more than just applause.
The Pirates of Silicon Valley (1999)
A movie telling viewers how top companies like Apple and Microsoft is compelling content, and it rightfully deserves to be included in a list of the best tech movies of all time. From the creator of Apple, Steve Jobs, to the creator of Microsoft, Bill Gates, The Pirates of Silicon Valley stars every important character that should be a part of this story.
The Social Network (2010)
David Fincher rarely gets things wrong, and a prime example of his work is The Social Network. Released in 2010, it tells the story of the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, and how he went on to create a platform where people could connect with each other. The detailed nature of the film and the authenticity with which it was showcased makes it a shoo-in for any list of top tech movies.
