Nadzeya Ostapchuk loses gold medal after failing drugs test at London 2012

It was a pleasant wake-up news for New Zealander Valerie Adams who discovered to be a Olympic gold medalist as Belarusian shot putter Nadzeya Ostapchuk’s medal was withdrawn for doping.

Russian athlete Evgeniya Kolodko will now get silver and Gong Lijiao of China moved from fourth place up to the podium for the bronze medal.

The athlete representing Belarus resulted positive to the anabolic agent metenolone, which was tested on 5th and 6th August during the competition’s doping test sessions. She has been disqualified and stripped of her medal.

This was the first and only case of a gold medalist being stripped of her title at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
