Beabadoobee at Somerset House

Hailing from west London, 23-year-old Filipino-born Bea Christi, known by her alias Beabadoobee, has risen through the ranks in the music industry and been earning her stripes as a talent to remember. The young artist is already a global star, with close to 14 million monthly streams across all major streaming platforms. 

The crowd buzzed with excitement for Beabadoobee’s entrance as the evening sky slowly faded to a deep blue in the picturesque grounds of Somerset House, where big names have been performing throughout the highly anticipated annual Summer Series. The singer-songwriter ran onstage to excited screams over the sound of electrifying guitar riffs and drums. She wasted no time in getting started, swinging a guitar strap round her neck and breaking into opening track Talk. From her album Beatopia, this song had everyone jumping on their feet with its indie-rock melody, reminiscent of classic 00s anthems. 

Beabadoobee showed off her tell-tale rebellious nature as she strutted around the stage, swinging her hips and screaming at the top of her lungs. She held an excellent rapport with the crowd, yelling into the mic for London to “give me more”, unable to suppress a grin as everyone let down their hair and passionately sang along. 

The setup of the stage was sophisticatedly cool yet simple. Drawings from 2022’s Beatopia album art lit up the back wall behind the band, and the lighting switched between red and white, flashing in the popular anthem track, She Plays Bass. 

Once the band played the closing track – the hot and heavy Cologne – their exit was instantly followed by the desperate pleas for “one more song”. The fans’ wish was granted, as Beabadobee and the band reappeared and delivered three more, to the crowd’s delight. One of these included the wistful, calming track Coffee, which was played acoustically with only the artist’s vocals and a guitar, soft lighting focused on the spot where she perched on a stool. 

Beabadoobee gave nothing short of a dazzling performance, sure to leave everyone buzzing long after the night ended. From the venue and stage set to the rapport with the crowd to the painstaking commitment to the passionate delivery of each song, there’s no question that Beabadoobee knows how to gig like no one’s watching.
