“It’s an alternate universe where a drag queen is just existing amongst the citizens”: Priyanka on It’s All Sunshine and Rainbows
New comedy movie It’s All Sunshine and Rainbows brings a fresh twist to the genre of Hallmark romance. When television weather girl Melonie Sunshine (Priyanka) suffers a relationship dip that causes her to be publicly humiliated at work, she starts to look outside of the confines of her life for something better. Unfortunately, she then suffers a tragic family loss on top of her heartache, but it brings in its wake the surprise inheritance of her aunt’s farm and wedding business, which end up giving her so much more than she ever thought possible.
Written by Lauren Whitelaw and co-directed by Gwenlyn Cumyn and Karen Knox (Slo Pitch), the feature positions drag artist Priyanka in the driving seat of this endearing narrative, where viewers are treated to a host of glittering costumes, bawdy humour and a story of unexpected romance.
The Upcoming had the pleasure of speaking to Priyanka about her debut movie role, what drew her to it and what people can expect from the storylines. She also touches on the current controversy surrounding drag artists and what she hopes people will take away from It’s All Sunshine and Rainbows.
