Housekeeping for Beginners: On the red carpet with Goran Stolevski at London Film Festival 2023

While Bradley Cooper’s Maestro took a rather critical look at the ramifications of his protagonist’s queer identity on his family life, a concurrent film in the BFI’s line-up had an entirely different viewpoint on the subject matter: Housekeeping for Beginners highlights the importance of chosen families and proves the validity of non-conventional constellations. After winning the Queer Lion at the Venice Film Festival, Goran Stolevski’s third feature was elected Macedonia’s entry to the Academy Award’s Best International Film category.

The Upcoming spoke to the Macedonian-Australian director on the red carpet about his creation process and writing about a specific cultural experience from afar.
