Kasabian set to release new album Happenings and announce summer tour dates
British rock sensation Kasabian is set to ignite the music scene with their eighth studio album Happenings, launching on 5th July through Columbia Records. Accompanying the announcement is the release of their first single, Call, available today. The band has also revealed a schedule for massive summer performances, including a show at Leicester’s Victoria Park on 6th July and headlining Latitude Festival on 26th July.
Kasabian, renowned for their dynamic presence in the UK music industry, are ready to excite fans with Happenings, an album that promises to rank among their finest works to date. The lead single Call showcases a vibrant synth riff, layered with rhythmic chanting and resonant grooves, setting the stage for the album’s energetic vibe. Frontman Serge Pizzorno describes the single as the album’s “launchpad”, emphasising its dance music qualities, with quieter verses and a rousing chorus designed to create an exhilarating live concert experience.
The music video for Call, directed by Waxxwork, features a striking visual of a phone plummeting from a plane, filmed in Albania to comply with aerospace regulations. The video captures the intensity of the single, with sky-divers performing to the song in real-time during a free fall, adding to the track’s high-octane appeal.
Happenings emerges as a succinct collection of ten tightly-crafted tracks, spanning a mere 26 minutes – a deliberate nod to the brevity of The Ramones’ debut album. Pizzorno, the creative force behind the album, initially penned and recorded the songs at his home studio, The Sergery, before finalising production with Mark Ralph. The album’s tracks, inspired by the free-spirited performance art of the late 1950s, transition seamlessly from dance beats to rock anthems, each under three minutes to maintain a brisk and engaging pace.
The album features a diverse range of tunes from the poignant Darkest Lullaby, which compels listeners to dance, to the optimism-infused Coming Back to Me Good, which could resonate with fans during the Euros. Tracks like the quaint Italian Horror and the uplifting GOAT further showcase Kasabian’s eclectic artistry. Algorithms, previously released as a single, culminates the album with its rousing energy.
Kasabian’s return to their hometown is marked by their upcoming concert in Leicester’s Victoria Park, promising a setlist that spans their impressive career. As Serge reflects on the band’s 20 years since their debut album, he believes that the best way to celebrate is with fresh, invigorating music.
Happenings is now available for pre-order, with the lineup featuring Serge Pizzorno, bassist Chris Edwards, drummer Ian Matthews, and guitarist Tim Carter. Fans and new listeners alike can anticipate a record that not only honours the band’s storied past but also propels them forward with unwavering momentum.
