Celebrating 35 years of family fun at Parc Astérix

For 35 years, Parc Astérix has been entertaining families from all over the world. The French theme park, located 35 km north of Paris, offers many attractions and stage shows. Voted “Best Large Park of the Year” in 2023 by the prestigious Park World Excellence Awards, the park has been entertaining over 52 million visitors since it first opened in 1989. Whether you are visiting Paris on a family holiday or for the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games, a visit to Parc Astérix is a great way to let your hair down. Here’s a little bit more about what the park offers.

Who is Astérix?

Even if you have heard of the popular French amusement park Parc Astérix, you may be unfamiliar with the character. Astérix is a character created by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo in 1959 who features in a long-running comic book series. He is a Gaulish warrior living in the time of the Roman Empire who, with his friends and the aid of a special potion, is able to keep their village safe from the armies of Julius Caesar. Astérix embarks on many humorous adventures in his stories spanning over 40 volumes. It is one of the most popular comic book series in Europe with almost 400 million volumes sold.

What’s at the park?

Parc Astérix has over 50 attractions and shows to experience, spread out through six themed universes based on the adventures of Astérix: the Village of the Gauls, the Roman Empire, Ancient Greece, Ancient Egypt, the Land of the Vikings and Medieval France (Through Time). Each universe has its own selection of rides and attractions, and roller coaster fans will be ecstatic over the wide selection of coasters. Here are a few of our favourite rides:

Pégase Express: Soar above Ancient Greece on this unique steel coaster that not only goes forward but backwards, as well!

Menhir Express: This exciting flume ride will have you riding one of Obelix’s menhirs down a giant slope. Great fun for the whole family, though you might get wet at the end!

Oziris: This one is wild! You’ll find yourself launched 40 metres into the sky at top speed, passing through a devious selection of loops, turns and twists on this inverted coaster.

Attention Menhir!: Enjoy this immersive 4D presentation that puts you in the heart of the action during one of Astérix’s many adventures.

This is only a small selection of what the park has to offer. There are various rides, attractions and shows that are suitable for the entire family.

Getting to the park

You can reach Parc Astérix by heading north on the A1 motorway, between exits 7 and 8. Note that there is a parking fee of €20.00. Buses and shuttles are also available from various locations; check the website for more information.

Parc Astérix has three themed hotels all within walking distance of the park: La Cité Suspendue, Les Quais de Lutèce, and Les Trois Hiboux. Each hotel offers unique amenities, including early access to the park, character greetings and free onsite parking.
