Netflix sets release date for Squid Game season 2 in December 2024, with final season to follow in 2025
Netflix has announced that the second season of its popular series will land on 26th December 2024, with the series concluding in a final season slated for 2025.
The announcement was made through a letter from Hwang Dong-hyuk, the show’s executive producer, writer and director. Addressing fans globally, he said he was “thrilled to see the seed that was planted in creating a new Squid Game grow and bear fruit through the end of the story…We’ll do our best to make sure we bring you yet another thrill ride. I hope you’re excited for what’s to come. Thank you, always, and see you soon, everyone.”
Season two of the thriller series picks up three years after the protagonist, Player 456, won the original game. Still haunted by the events, he is determined to dismantle the shadowy organisation behind the deadly contest. Armed with his winnings, he begins his quest by tracking a sharply dressed man playing ddakji in the subway, a search that leads him back into the perilous game itself. The upcoming season promises even higher stakes and more intense challenges.
The series continues under the stewardship of Hwang Dong-hyuk, who previously earned the distinction of being the first Asian to win Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series at the 74th Primetime Emmys. Returning cast members include Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun and Gong Yoo, alongside newcomers such as Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul and Park Gyu-young among others, adding depth to the ensemble of characters.
