Laura Whitmore to star as Rachel Watson in The Girl on the Train UK and Ireland tour starting June 2025
Laura Whitmore, the Irish presenter and actress known for her role in Love Island, will join the cast of the UK and Ireland tour of The Girl on the Train as the lead character, Rachel Watson. Whitmore will begin her performances in Brighton at the Theatre Royal on 3rd June 2025, taking over from Giovanna Fletcher, who was previously announced in the role. The tour will continue across various locations, concluding in Dublin at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre at the end of August.
The Girl on the Train, adapted from Paula Hawkins’ best-selling novel, has been a significant hit both as a book and on stage. The story follows Rachel Watson, a woman who becomes entangled in a missing person’s investigation that forever changes her life. The novel is renowned for its gripping narrative and complex character development, elements that have transitioned effectively to the stage.
Whitmore expressed her enthusiasm about the role, saying, “I read the book when it first came out and I was obsessed by it. I love it when you find a book and all you can think about is that story. You wake up a little bit earlier to read the book and stay up too late to finish it. I am excited to show people my portrayal of Rachel next summer.”
The production, directed by Loveday Ingram and adapted by Rachel Wagstaff and Duncan Abel, aims to deliver a thrilling experience to audiences, mirroring the success of its previous tours. The 2019 tour set box office records, underscoring the story’s enduring appeal.
Laura Whitmore’s acting credentials include her West End debut in 2.22: A Ghost Story and her participation in other film and television projects such as Hulu’s Four Weddings and a Funeral and the sci-fi thriller Hello Stranger. She also has a robust background in broadcasting, having hosted major shows like MTV Europe, Love Island and a BBC podcast titled Murder They Wrote.
The tour will make stops in several major cities, including Leeds, Belfast, Cork and Southampton, allowing fans across the UK and Ireland numerous opportunities to see the production. Each venue offers a unique setting to experience this acclaimed thriller.
Produced by Simon Friend Entertainment and Josh Andrews Productions, The Girl on the Train tour is anticipated to be a highlight of the 2025 theatre calendar, offering a compelling blend of suspense and drama that has attracted millions worldwide.
