Flowerovlove at Bush Hall
The intimacy of Bush Hall is like no other; it is expected that within its four walls, entrancing, personable experiences await. When Flowerovlove met its stage on 26th November, however, she transformed the bosom environment entirely. Although she has only been releasing music for four years, the audience at Bush Hall could have never guessed. The power Flowerovlove was able to exude in only an hour and 15 minutes is uncanny, yet extraordinary.
A big and bright spotlight lit the stage, making sure to focus on the singer perched inside of a comically large pink high heel. With a sly smile, she jumped into the first track of the night, Will We Ever Get This Right. Flowerovlove performs like no one is watching: she feels the lyrics as they flow from her vocal chords and allows the heavy percussion to sway her. When the next song, Next Best Exit, followed immediately after, fans began to match her moves; when Flowerovlove plays the air guitar, so do they, and when she gives them instructions, they make sure to follow. When she requested phone torches to shine in the air during Love You, arms shot up in record time. When she called upon the crowd to get low, then jump as high as they could during Are U Serious?, they did so without question.
Flowerovlove’s knack for performing is displayed as she continuously involves the audience: she is unapologetically herself as she tells sassy, off-the-cuff jokes, brings zealous attendees up onto the stage alongside her and ensures that every shining smile is met with one of her own. The infectious Boys, poppy Erase U and breakout hit Breaking News were more fun than ever because of her attention to these details that made the show one-of-a-kind.
The singer proved herself to be effortlessly cool, especially during Malibu, one of her first-ever singles. Although the song is sonically much different compared to the rest of her discography thus far due to its lean towards rhythm, her pop-princess persona never wavered and the attitude of Malibu benefited greatly from it.
Congrats! U Did it! is Flowerovlove’s most vulnerable song to date, and it was an explosive way to end the main set; the drums and bass erupted off the walls of the small venue, allowing it to have an even more intense emotional impact in comparison to its studio counterpart. Flowerovlove was not finished, however. As per the fans’ many requests for one more song, the singer delivered with Hannah Montana, which was met with dancing bodies and voices as loud as her own. For those who refused to leave, Flowerovlove rewarded them by performing a snippet of an unreleased song entitled Get With You that was just as spunky and full of life as the rest of her classic pop tunes.
Overall, Flowerovlove is a force to be reckoned with; this one-night-only show at Bush Hall in honour of her latest EP, Ache In My Tooth, highlighted just how special of a performer she is. The singer does not discriminate based on the size of a venue or how many attendees are present; she has proved with this gig that she holds an extreme level of love for her craft as well as anyone else who appreciates it.
