The Michael Hoppen Gallery exhibits Tights & Lips by Daido Moriyama
Tight & Lips is the latest collection from award winning photographer Daido Moriyama.
Throughout Daido Moriyama’s long and illustrious career, it’s clear that his artistic perspective has continued to mature over the recent years. Not to say that he’s lost any of his creative flare. His vintage monochrome photography is still as unique as it’s always been.
Moriyama’s work typically features powerful, dramatic spotlighting – drawing the eye to the main focal point of the picture and then strongly contrasting it against a background of mysterious darkness. Not knowing what lies hidden in the shadows can evoke slightly unnerving feelings at times but his artwork demands attention through its beauty and originality.
The Michael Hoppen Gallery, just off the famous Kings Road, London, is currently displaying one of the 73 years old’s most recent projects in an exhibition called Tights & Lips. A tasteful and seductive collection of his photography with an urban twist, depicting women in fishnets, and yes, some very juicy lips! There are also various smaller photographs on the first floor that shows us Mariyama’s mash-up between contemporary graphic art and street culture.
MH Contemporary, on the ground floor of the gallery, has a vast open space with a well-lit, clean and modern design that complements the photography on display. Michael Hoppen himself was a photographer and a devoted collector of iconic photographs. The gallery first opened its doors in Chelsea in 1993 and has since become one of the most respected establishments in the world of international art.
A perfect venue to check out for lovers of art through the medium of photography.
