Riverside Studios to debut 10 Nights, a play exploring faith and self-discovery during Ramadan
Riverside Studios in London will host the opening of the critically acclaimed play 10 Nights on 8th January, directed by Samir Bhamra and penned by Olivier Award-nominated playwright Shahid Iqbal Khan. The play, which delves into themes of faith, community and self-discovery, will explore the personal journey of Yasser during the last ten nights of Ramadan as he partakes in itikaf, a period of reflection spent in a mosque.
10 Nights has garnered attention for its insightful and often humorous portrayal of Yasser’s experiences as he grapples with the challenges of communal living, the eccentricities of his fellow worshippers, and his own internal struggles. The narrative promises to shift perceptions and break stereotypes, resonating with a diverse audience by highlighting common human experiences and emotions.
The play’s setting during Ramadan, a significant period of observance for Muslims, adds a layer of cultural depth and authenticity. Yasser’s story is punctuated by moments of light-heartedness, particularly through his cravings for chunky chips, which add a relatable touch to his spiritual and personal quest.
Director Samir Bhamra and playwright Shahid Iqbal Khan have previously collaborated on projects that emphasise cultural narratives and have been well-received for their dynamic and thoughtful approaches to storytelling. Their latest venture, 10 Nights, is expected to follow in the same vein, offering both entertainment and enlightenment to its audiences.
As 10 Nights prepares to open its doors to the public, it stands as a poignant exploration of personal growth and community interaction, set against the backdrop of a deeply spiritual time for many. The play not only aims to entertain but also to foster a deeper understanding of the nuances of faith and the universal journey of self-discovery.
