“The family also gets its due”: Sindhu Vee, Anoushka Chadha, Asim Chaudry, Luke Fetherston, Prathana Mohan and Nikita Lalwani on Picture This

Prarthana Mohan adds a clever twist on the classic rom-com formula with Picture This. The film follows Pia (Simone Ashley), a portrait photographer navigating the pressures of her career, the weight of her family’s expectations and the intricacies of her love life. When an eccentric prophecy suggests that true love will find her through her next five dates, Pia’s carefully balanced world is thrown into turmoil – especially with her younger sister’s extravagant wedding just around the corner, her well-meaning, overbearing family steps in as matchmakers and her ex (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) reappears in her life. Set against a vibrant and colourful backdrop, Picture This skilfully combines humour and heart, offering a rom-com that feels both refreshing and deeply relatable. Through its authentic portrayal of love, tradition and personal growth, the film captures the essence of modern romance while honouring its complexities.
Ahead of the film’s release on Prime Video, The Upcoming caught up with Sindhu Vee and Anoushka Chadha, who portray Pia’s loving mother and her sister Sonal. They shared their insights on what makes a great romantic comedy, highlighting how Picture This excels with its blend of constant flow of humour, family dynamics and well-developed supporting characters.
Luke Fetherston, who plays Pia’s best friend and business partner, Jay, shared how he prepared for the role by drawing on the similarities between himself and his character. He also spoke about the bond his character shares with Pia’s family, which feels real and relatable.
Director Prathana Mohan and screenwriter Nikita Lalwani revealed that Simone Ashley played a pivotal role in shaping Pia’s character as a portrait photographer, offering a glimpse into the creative process behind the decision and the challenges and rewards of filming Pia at work, as well as how they drew from their own experience with dating and careers.
