“I think fans are going to be really happy with how Taylor culminated everything that he built in season one in such a profoundly beautiful way”: Brandon Sklenar, Jennifer Carpenter, Aminah Nieves, Sebastian Roché and Brian Geraghty on 1923 season two

The Dutton family’s plights and adventures will continue to allure fans with this new season of 1923. Part of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe, the show stars Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, Brandon Sklenar and Julia Schlaepfer in this gritty follow-up to 1883. Balancing the prohibition era’s roaring 20s glam with that familiar rugged and Western aesthetic of Sheridan’s work, this new season sees winter settling into the ranch as Jacob and Cara hold the fort with tensions rising around them. Meanwhile, Spencer traverses the seas and scrambles to make enough money to get back to his family in Montana while mourning his separation from Alexandra.
Sklenar, who recently starred alongside Jason Baldoni and Blake Lively in the adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel It Ends with Us, is back as Spencer. He’s also set to star in the upcoming films Green and Gold and Drop. The Upcoming spoke with Sklenar to discuss all the new things to expect this season. He spoke in depth about the gap in filming and his journey with Spencer, a character he began playing just as he entered his 30s. He also talked about Spencer’s relationship with Alexandra, sensitivity and masculinity, and Sheridan’s knowledge of the history of America that has continually helped build the world of 1923.
Other stars we caught up with include Jennifer Carpenter and Aminah Nieves. Carpenter – known for her role in the film White Chicks, her voice acting stints, and the Dexter franchise – is a new addition to the show. Meanwhile, Nieves plays Teonna Rainwater, a student of Father Renaud’s Catholic boarding school, where she faces the abusive wrath of the nuns and the priests. In the interview, Carpenter talked about Sheridan’s great balancing act in showing the familiar 1920s glam along with the dark and rough edges of the West. Nieves also discussed collaborating with Sheridan on Teonna’s story and Native American representation in the series.
Finally, The Upcoming spoke with Sebastian Roché and Brian Geraghty. Roché is known for his role in General Hospital, as well as having guest-starred in other popular television shows like Supernatural, Criminal Minds, Vampire Diaries and Once Upon a Time. Geraghty himself starred in Chicago PD and Chicago Fire and acted alongside Lilly Collins and Zac Efron in the Ted Bundy biographical film Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. We chatted with Roché about getting into the cruel and abusive mindset of Father Renaud, while Geraghty discussed working with Ford and Mirren and things he has learned from their long and continuous careers.
