NYFW – Clover Canyon S/S 2013 collection
Eclectic LA-based designer Clover Canyon presented her new sophisticated summer 2013 collection at The Box, Lincoln Center.
Clover Canyon definitely knows how to stimulate the senses. A kaleidoscope of colours and patterns wowed spectators for his spring/summer 2013 presentation which favoured an art collection of vacation snapshots. His inspiration? The beauty and diversity of Southern California during a road trip. Crystals and sequins decorated boyish shirts made of chiffon and voile. Reflective images of dashboards, cars, roadways, beach surfers and even a lone horseman (on his horse) were splashed across perfectly tailored clothing.
Even though his brand is new on the scene, Canyon’s statement is bold. The colours are vivid and lively, for a woman who understands and appreciates splendour of art coming together with fashion, otherwise the patterns will appear dizzying. Nevertheless, he created a beautiful backdrop for a fascinating story about his journey through the vast SoCal region. Many of the pieces were fit with matching jackets which were equally patterned and/or bejeweled. While every piece stunned the audience, the crowd lingered longest at the “On the Road Dress”. The dress created a view of a seemingly endless road ahead including a clear blue sky which immediately lured you into the moment and carried you someplace mentally. Undoubtedly, Clover Canyon’s imagination is in the driver’s seat.
