NYFW – Tracy Reese S/S 2013 collection

It has been a whirlwind of a week for fashion designer Tracy Reese. The first lady wowed the DNC in one of her dresses, and then Reese finished off the week by presenting a more than satisfying spring 2013 collection at New York Fashion Week.

Reese’s collection displayed a classy yet comfortable feel, complete with lots of colour and style. Her signature feminine flare remains in this collection, however, there is an obvious parting from her more sophisticated girly-girl dresses. This is a good move.

The slouchy silk trousers and casual blouses are a hot yet minimal look and go together with relaxed blazers. These pieces kept the collection well and truly grounded with that sense of freedom, as well as the short sundresses that appear so carefree and independent. 

Stealing the show was the magnificent sequin-embroidered pants and intricately embellished button-down shirts. 

The surprising colour combinations created a new outlook on the spring/summer palette; no rules applied here, with mixes such as peach and blood-orange. Completely unpredictable, but Reese pulled it off really well.

Expectantly, we all anticipated the accessories as we are drawn to them every season. For this collection it is the fringe – even the shoes were fringe as well as the bags, but there was an impulsive feel to this as Reese added PVC for a modern image yet staying tribal, and this worked successfully. 

The collection screams carefree elegance and Reese is unstoppable.
