Kristina Train – Dark Black

Kristina Train’s mesmerisingly painful forthcoming album is a work of art. The Southern-American songwriter copes with love, loss, dark and bright moments. This is an infuriatingly yet dreamy 12-track LP that will leave all listeners drenched in that soul-saving sorrow that is always at the heart of great music. 

Passionate lyrics combined with enchanting melodies and profoundly sweet vibes, the latest work of the New York-born singer resonates with that grandiosity belonging to legends of the past such as Otis Redding, Neil Young and Joni Mitchell – among Train’s major inspirations, by the way – but is not at all a mere echo of what has been. Instead, it sheds a dream-like light on the modern soul panorama.

Tracks such as Don’t Leave Me Here Alone or Dream Of Me (the latter already featured on her previously released EP with the same title) are real heart-openers, wonderfully striking the ears and eyes of everyone who’s going to listen to this album with a broken heart, filling it with renewed hope for the future. In contrast, the album opener Dark Black immediately throws you into an obscure spiral of mourning that encapsulates the whole thing.

Produced by Dave Kosten and Danton Supple, who respectively produced Bat For Lashes and Coldplay’s X&Y, Dark Black has been co-written with producer and songwriter Martin Craft, singer Ed Harcourt and the co-writer of Lana Del Rey’s Video Games, Justin Parker. 

Already compared to great names such as Dusty Springfield and Aretha Franklin, Kristina Train is a fresh, soulful breeze capable of being a deep meaningful lyricist as well as producing timeless melodies, and the follow-up to her 2009 debut Spilt Milk, is the definite testimony of her grandeur.

Dark Black will be released on 5^th November and it is possible to see Kristina Train live, as she’ll be supporting Amy MacDonald on her UK tour which will start on 27^th October.
