The official 2013 Oscar nominations are in
The Oscar nominations are in, being announced by Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane and actress Emma Stone.
Dominating the shortlist is the historical drama Lincoln, produced by Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy. Life of Pi has managed to secure 11 nominations, including Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.
Other prevalent films appearing on the shortlist for a range of categories are: Silver Linings Playbook, Argo, Amour, Django Unchained and Les Misérables.
The most stand-out nomination is for the independent film Beasts of the Southern Wild, which has gained recognition for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. In addition, nine-year-old actress Quvenzhané Wallis has earned a nomination for Best Actress, the youngest nominee to have been featured in this category.
Searching for Sugar Man, set in the 1970s, based on the ever elusive musician has been shortlisted for Best Documentary feature. Moonrise Kingdom, written by Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola, is up for Original Screenplay writing.
Bond film Skyfall created much hype on its release, and although director Sam Mendes did not manage to secure a spot on the nominee list, Adele Adkins has been nominated for the soundtrack and Original Song in the Music category.
The ceremony will be hosted by Dolby Theatre on 24th February, for the 85th year, to mark the Academy Awards for 2013. Until then, anticipation ensues until the winners are announced.
