Model student: Supermodel Karlie Kloss announces plans to attend Harvard

Adding equilibrium and neutrality to the aged-old “brains versus beauty” argument (that is, that you can only have one or the other) and proving that perhaps you can have it all, Karlie Kloss has recently stated that she fully intends to become a student at Harvard.

Not the first and no doubt the last person of notable reputation to announce scholarly leanings, the 5’9” beauty will be following the likes of Emma Watson, Lily Cole, Natalie Portman and even James Franco (who received a PhD in English from Yale) in showing that graduating into the world of celebrity is no match for a fully-fledged collegiate experience.

The 2012 most prolific model confessed that seeing Tyra Banks achieve accreditation from the world-famous educational institution makes the intellectual destination that bit more desirable. Although one can’t help but think perhaps she has seen Legally Blonde one too many times …

Claiming that courses in medicine or business both have equal allure – because they are so similar?! – Kloss declared with an ambitiously entrepreneurial spirit that business opportunities are now significantly more realistic given her extremely advantageous position, thus business could have the edge. However, her father’s position as an ER doctor has equipped the glamazon with a curious nature when it comes to medicine.

While the transition into college life and study is a traditionally expected move for most 20-year-old American kids, it is easy to forget that the supermodel technically belongs to that same demographic. Minus the insanely huge amount of student debt she certainly will not be accruing, the Harvard hopeful believes she will fit in just fine.

It seems only days now before the announcement sparks debates surrounding public figures as role models. However, the more prominent debate should be whether those in a position of unmatchable advantage and privilege are in fact the most realistic of examples. The slogan “If an unbelievably glamorous, experienced supermodel can do it, I can!” doesn’t seem über-relatable …

Nevertheless, you can’t blame a girl for trying and the ambition is certainly inspiring. So, adding Harvard dreams to Karlie’s not-so-secret adoration for baking and her passion for ballet (manifested in a stint at Caston’s Ballet Academie) there is no telling what the future holds for Lanvin’s multitalented spring/summer 2013 poster girl.
