LFW – Mulberry A/W 2013 collection
If any show is likely to pull in some big A-listers, it’s Mulberry. With creative director Emma Hill putting on the show for this iconic British brand, the big names certainly turned up. Amongst the front row, we were graced with brand ambassadors Lana Del Rey and Alexa Chung sporting some fabulous outfits themselves!
As the show began, it was clear that a trend we are going to be seeing a lot of is the skirt-over-trouser look. Popular back in the 90s, this style is set to see a big comeback and creative director Emma Hill claimed that they had “made trousers the new tights”. We certainly like this way of thinking and if our outfits look as put together as what we saw on the Mulberry catwalk, then we’ll certainly give it a shot!
Among the show, we spotted plenty of skater skirts over cropped trousers but also wide-legged trousers, which were executed only in the most feminine and mature way possible. Alongside the 90s vibe, we had a fantastic selection of outerwear, with coats of plaid and sheepskin collars. Elbow-length gloves were also a staple.
We also noticed the hint of florals and woodland creatures, and that was just the set design! That same pattern flowed throughout the show and is definitely a theme we would associate with this well-loved brand. When you thought the show couldn’t get any more earthy and nature-inspired, models even walked down with a poodle! Heritage is an ultimately sophisticated look and Mulberry did it justice with a heavy amount of oxblood reds, maroons and forest greens throughout.
Mulberry are ultimately known for its lusted after handbags and, of course, they were a staple part of the show. The Willow Tote, the Bayswater and the Suffolk Tote were just some of the new offerings on show which would have been sure to set tongues wagging! Bags being the ultimate accessory, every single outfit had its matching sidekick and Hill said backstage that “We wanted luxury and sophistication but it’s always important for us to look at our heritage.” Only cementing the idea that we really did want every single item on the runway this afternoon!
Our highlight of the show was possibly the moment our eyes were transfixed on the appearance of everyone’s favourite model Cara Delavingne.
