Dress to play: Bex & Julz launch
Last night The Upcoming attended the press screening and launch party of Bex & Julz’ Dress to play.
The party was based on the Russian folk tale Master and Margarita with Balkan music, margaritas and vodka. Hosted at the Proud Cabaret with a dark and theatrical theme, it was the perfect location for Russian glamour.
Four short films directed and dressed by Bex & Julz were shown to reveal and introduce what the brand is about. It is a production company with a mixture of art, literature, film and fashion. The films were based on Kafka’s Metamorphosis, Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot, Franny and Zooey by JD Salinger and lastly the Russian story by Mikhail Bulgakov’s Masters and Margarita. Designs from Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Miu Miu and Alexander McQueen were part of the costumes within the film.
Rebecca Illing and Giulia Camponer make up the Bex & Julz brand, and noticed a gap in the fashion industry that excluded theatre, art and film. They brought their professional experience from the theatre into fashion. Their service includes art direction, acting, brand consulting and representation as a service, and heavily play on the “dress to play” theme. They restyle moments in storybooks by recreating people’s attitude that they observe.
