James White

Since he first wielded a pencil to draw a superhero, art has been James’s first love. Following a fine art degree and MA in art history, his professional journey has taken him to Madrid – where he fell under the spell of Goya, Velasquez, El Greco and Picasso – and the Manchester of L. S. Lowry, before he settled in old London Town eight years ago.

As an artist, teacher and art writer, James’s aesthetic sensibilities and knowledge have been shaped by his own painting practice, research and a huge number of art and design exhibitions around the world, from the UK to the United States. It was Madrid which first lit the touch-paper to his art criticism in the form of a review of the memorable Sorolla-Sargent show held at the Thyssen-Bornemisza museum in 2006. James’s passion for both art writing and art and design exhibitions continues to grow.
