From Scotland with love: The Scottish lion meets the Asian dragon
The world’s largest and most prestigious Scottish fundraiser and fashion event of the year took place on Monday night at Stage 48 in New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen. The co-hosts of the evening were Dr. Geoffrey Scott Carroll and Peter Morris who with humor, thoughtfulness, great taste, remarkable guests, and friends, offered an outstanding evening celebrating the best in Scottish and Asian fashion.
Represented by a yin/yang symbol – a circle shared by a Scottish Lion and an Asian dragon – the evening’s theme was an effort to reach beyond geographical boundaries and create much needed collaborations, opportunities, connections, and exchanges for talented individuals and businesses from Scotland and Asian countries.
Walking down the runway in styles by designers such as Vivienne Westwood, Zang Toi and Chloe Chen were models and supermodels from around the globe as well as an eclectic group of celebrities. Included among the stars of the evening were NYC TV’s Kelly Choi; ABC Good Morning America co-host Josh Elliott; Nichole Galicia of Django Unchained; Emmy Award-winning costume designer Eric Daman; Graham Stephen and Anatol Yusef of Boardwalk Empire; Claire Holt of The Vampire Diaries; Kelly Hu of X-Men; Meghan Ory of Once Upon a Time; Matthew Rhys of The Americans; Kelly Rutherford and Matthew Settle of Gossip Girl; Lt. Colonel Martha McSally, the first female fighter pilot in US History; Olympic Medalist Michelle Kwan; activist Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi; Steve Weatherford of the New York Giants; supermodel Ling Tan; and Miss Scotland, Nicole Treacy.
The catwalk was punctuated by phenomenal performers such as the Japanese electric violin sensation Sarina Suno, the outstanding tap dancer and choreographer Joel Hanna, and the world-class fiddler, Ashley Maclssac.
The fundraiser, which will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project and the McConnell International Foundation, was a sincere and heartfelt celebration of human spirit, abundant talent, good will, great effort, hard work and fearless courage. A remarkable success from any perspective, the night was a breathtaking and exciting blend of imagination, culture and artistic exchange, met by all participants with great enthusiasm and cheers!
